very good. The book, A Barge at Large, is a snore and a bore. The story is about Jo and Jan who refurbish a 1905 boat and travel to Holland, France, Germany, Belgium . . . . Bird Island.Eleven required items for fixing up a boat are listed along with explanations. Time, patience, equipment, and a medical team are among these items. Some advice on insect management is explained. The rest of the book does not address the curiosity of the reader. Instead 237 pages are filled with nonessential information, the most exciting of which is a visitation to a replica of Noah's ark and the author's first Tour-de-France triumph.Not much is written about the countries themselves save a few passages such as "People chat and chuckle as the birds sing, mouth-watering smells from a number BBQs drift towards us (as do the fumes from a diesel generator)" and 'Eel Day is where people indulge that well-known pastime; the purchasing and the consuming of eels! Eels look foul but smoked eel is really good – particularly after a couple of dozen beers.' - Jo MayA Barge at Large is a keepsake for Jo and Jan to remember their vacation.
